As you embark on designing your new custom closet, I encourage you, just as I do with my clients, to consider details that go beyond the basics and incorporate luxurious elements that will enhance your daily routines. Since we interact with our closets every day, especially in the morning, why not make it an experience to look forward to? Below, you’ll find some of my favorite closet design ideas to inspire your project.
Discover how to include amenities in your closet that are truly worth the investment. After exploring these design ideas, you’ll feel inspired to add touches of luxury and create the closet of your dreams.
Closet Design Ideas
In this post, you will learn which types of amenities to invest in when exploring closet design ideas. Here are some of my favorite simple luxury closet design ideas that you’ll absolutely love, transforming your morning routine into a luxurious experience.
1. Jewelry Organizer Tray
When you’re getting ready, having each piece of jewelry neatly organized in a custom jewelry storage tray is essential for a smooth and joyful routine. These custom velvet jewelry trays are designed to maximize storage and keep your rings, watches, bracelets, and other accessories perfectly arranged and easily accessible. With a glass top that provides a clear view of your collection, selecting the perfect piece becomes effortless. This setup not only keeps your jewelry well-organized but also adds a touch of elegance to your storage. With everything in its place, you can begin your day with ease and confidence.
2. Pull-out Shoe Shelf
Incorporating a pull-out shoe shelf into your closet design makes it easy to view your entire shoe collection at a glance. In this project, the shelves were deep enough to accommodate two rows of shoes, allowing for four pairs per shelf. If your closet lacks the depth for two rows, that’s okay—this feature will still ensure that all your shoes are neatly organized and readily accessible. I recommend organizing your shoes by color and style, which helps streamline your selection process. The ability to see each pair clearly helps you choose the perfect shoes quickly and efficiently. Overall, this practical addition enhances both the functionality and organization of your closet. Make sure each shelf is adjustable so you can customize the height of the shelves based on the shoe heights.
3. Tall Boot Storage
Just like the pull-out shoe shelf, each tall boot cubby holds four pairs of boots, making it an ideal solution if you’re a boot lover. I prefer to keep my boots upright, and these tall boot inserts are excellent for maintaining their shape. Plus, they keep your boots organized and looking stylish.
4. Handbag Shelf
Adjustable slide-in dividers for your handbag shelves allow you to keep your collection neatly organized and easily accessible, creating a boutique-like experience every time you select a bag. This storage solution provides each handbag with its own designated space, simplifying the search for the perfect accessory. It’s an excellent way to maximize both practicality and storage efficiency. A well-organized handbag shelf not only enhances the functionality of your closet but also adds to its aesthetic appeal, offering a more streamlined and efficient storage solution. If you need a quick solution here are some excellent clear divider options available for immediate purchase.
5. Built-in Window Seats
If your closet has a window, this could be the ideal solution for you. Imagine the luxury of a built-in window seat with storage in your closet, where you can relax in your bathrobe with a mug of your favorite morning beverage as you prepare for the day. This elegant feature not only enhances your morning routine but also provides a practical spot for putting on your shoes. The built-in window seat with storage adds both comfort and functionality to your closet, making your space more enjoyable and efficient.
6. Built-In Laundry Hamper
A built-in laundry hamper is a feature that will elevate any closet. This convenient addition keeps your dirty laundry neatly contained and out of sight, enhancing the overall organization of your space. It integrates seamlessly into your closet design, offering both functionality and a polished, sophisticated appearance. The best part is that these built-in laundry hampers come in various sizes, allowing you to choose the perfect fit for your space.
7. Pull-Out Ironing Board
Adding a pull-out ironing board to your closet design is a smart choice for organization and convenience. This space-saving feature offers an easy and accessible solution for ironing clothes, helping you maintain a neat and polished wardrobe with minimal effort. The pull-out ironing board is cleverly concealed within a drawer, allowing you to tuck it away when not in use, which maximizes closet space and keeps your area clutter-free. Incorporating this types of pull-out ironing board into your closet design boosts functionality and efficiency, making it a must-have for a well-organized and stylish home.
8. Valet rods
Valet rods are a fantastic addition to any closet design, providing a dedicated space to hang clothes and keep garments wrinkle-free. These are perfect for organizing outfits, holding freshly ironed clothing, and simplifying your morning routine.Valet rods are stylish, practical, and offer both functionality and convenience by allowing you to prepare outfits in advance or easily manage your daily wear. They make your closet more efficient and accessible. Incorporating valet rods into your closet not only keeps your space well-organized but also adds a touch of elegance, making your mornings smoother and more enjoyable.
9. Closet Lighting
Enhancing the lighting in your closet is crucial for accurately distinguishing between similar colors like black and navy. Insufficient lighting and improper color temperature often make it difficult to differentiate between shades. By ensuring your closet is well-lit with the right lighting, you can effectively address these issues and improve your ability to see colors clearly.
Aim for a mix of decorative, task, and ambient lighting to create a functional and well-lit space. Each lighting type serves a specific purpose, so combining them is ideal. If you need to choose, consider pairing task lighting with decorative options like wall lights, or use decorative pendant lights for ambient illumination. When selecting lighting, focus on the color temperature of the bulbs, whether they are dimmable, and their brightness. I recommend fixtures with LED bulbs rated at 3,000 Kelvins. For safety, avoid using bare bulbs in closets, and always check local regulations for any specific requirements regarding light fixtures.
